20 magnificently nostalgic pictures that show Porthcawl in its wonderful heyday

Remember how exciting a trip to Porthcawl used to be?

For thousands of us throughout Wales and beyond in the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties, the seaside town was THE holiday destination to end all holiday destinations.

How many of us pitched up at Trecco Bay caravan park year after year, wishing we could stay for the whole summer rather than just the week or two our parents had booked off work?

Who remembers the Helter Skelter at Coney Beach Pleasure Park? TheĀ  pony rides along the sand? Not to mention the water chute that seemed like the most incredible thing ever created?

After our nostaligic pictures of Barry Island proved so popular, we’ve decided to take a tour around the rest of Wales’ most love seaside resorts, starting with Porthcawl.

Much has changed but the amusement park just about remains, despite being a shadow of its former self.

But, with summer just around the corner, a walk along the promenade will still be enjoyed by many.

For now, though, remind yourselves of Porthcawl’s former glory and cast your mind back to some wonderful times of the past.
