A blood-spattered poster will go up in Porthcawl to warn litter louts they could harm a child

A new poster has been designed to give a “sharp shock” to litter louts who could spoil Porthcawl’s beaches.

It is set to be distributed around the town as the summer season gets underway.

Town councillor Les Tallon-Morris was prompted to design the poster after pictures of smashed glass bottles left on Coney Beach were posted on Facebook.

He said that while Porthcawl has not got a particular problem with broken glass he hopes the poster, backed by Porthcawl Town Council, will prompt visitors to think twice about the state they leave the beaches in after they have visited.

Broken bottles like this have been found on Coney Beach:

The message is: ‘Take your rubbish home’

“I like the poster because it’s got a sharp shock,” said Les, who is also president of the town’s chamber of trade.

“Even now I look at it and cringe.

“We are just asking people to be aware and take their rubbish home with them.

“It’s OK to sit on the beach and have a couple of drinks, but take your bottles away.”

‘Bottles strewn across the beach’

Les said inspiration struck after Porthcawl resident Corum Champion posted pictures of broken beer and wine bottles that he found on Coney Beach on the Porthcawl First Facebook page.

Corum, 41, dad to four-year-old Darryen, said he feared a child would get hurt.

“Whenever we have a weekend of nice weather you will find empty and broken bottles on the beach. I walked down on Tuesday morning and a box of Corona bottles had been strewn across the beach and the empty box left there,” he said.

Les said: “I actually stood on glass many years ago and it’s pretty painful. I though that was something I could play on.

“I put my idea on the agenda for Porthcawl Town Council and gave them the poster and they thought it was a great idea.

“The town council will now get them out to all of the relevant beaches.”

He added: “Hopefully it will spur people on to think maybe it could be my child.”
