It’s all go for the Porthcawl Lions!

Members recently attended the Mayor of Porthcawl’s Summer Ball and with the theme of the evening being associated with the sea, members wore US Navy-style hats, with the approval of Mayor Cllr Laurie Desmond Williams.

The Porthcawl Lions were in action once again the next day with their popular car boot sale held at Porthcawl rugby ground. Weather permitting, the car boot will now be held every Sunday morning from 8am through to 1pm and the cost is the same as last year – £6 per car.

On Bank Holiday Monday, it was the Porthcawl Lions May Fayre, held in the grounds of All Saints Church. No complaints about the weather, as the sun shone all day, to the delight of the hundreds attending.

One of the highlights of the day was the dog show, which pleased the Rector Canon Phillip Masson as his dog won the wagging tail competition and came second overall as the best dog in show.

Many thanks to all those charities and organisatipns who staffed their stalls throughout the day and as with all Lions activities, all profits go to charity.

The next big event for the Porthcawl Lions is the annual Charity Golf Day at the Grove Golf Club on June 1. Teams of four cost £140, with coffee on arrival, participation in the competition over 18 holes and a buffet meal with the chance of winning quality prizes.

Full details of all Porthcawl Lions activities can be found on their web page porthcawllions.org.
