This year, Porthcawl Kidney Research Unit for Wales Foundation (PKRUWF) was so well supported by the people of Porthcawl and Bridgend, they were able to present £3,000 worth of equipment to the Transplant Unit in Cardiff.

Members and friends presented a hoist, blood pressure machine, commode, iPads and fans to the ward.

Events to raise money included coffee mornings, a silent auction and a Walk for Life.

In the summer, PKRUWF held an ‘Ascot Day’ in conjunction with the children’s ward in Bridgend and raised £2,500.

They also presented £2,000 to Kidney Wales and helped support a social worker for children who are on dialysis.

The children’s ward was able to buy equipment for the ward’s play area at the Princess of Wales Hospital. Members and friends of KRUF formed a craft group and knitted hedgehogs, which raised £700 for KRUF and the Polycystic Kidney Society.

The next event will be a Christmas Bazaar on December 3 at 12.30pm at the sports pavilion on Locks Lane, Porthcawl.

There will be festive stalls, refreshments and a visit from Santa; everyone welcome.
