Action plan to attract more tourists to Neath and Port Talbot

AN action plan is being launched to attract more tourists to Neath and Port Talbot – and get them to spend more while they’re here.

The tourism industry was worth £99 million to the county last year, up £4 million on the previous year.

Council community economic regeneration and tourism development manager Alex Williams said: “Despite the economic downturn, tourism continues to make a significant impact on our local economy.”

The council has now agreed an action plan to convert day visitors into staying visitors and to encourage them to spend more money.

It also wants to see continued improvements to facilities and attractions, and raise awareness of public transport links.

Members of the economic and community regeneration scrutiny committee unanimously supported the action plan.

Committee vice-chairman Ian James told Ms Williams: “I would like to thank you and your team for the fantastic work you do and continue to do for the long-term future of the tourism industry in Neath Port Talbot.”
