The youth of today are so often maligned and criticised, and seldom given the praise that they deserve.

At Porthcawl Comprehensive School, however, following an exhaustive five days of commitment, enthusiasm and energy on the part of the students, the Head Team raised almost £4,000 during Charities Week, and money is still coming in.

As each day went by, the fundraising gathered momentum with the keenly anticipated fancy dress day for Children in Need on November 17 being the pinnacle of the week.

As well as the old favourites such as ‘I’m a Teacher…Get me out of here!’, The Great British Bake Off, the Lip Synch Battle and Strictly Come Dancing, pupils also introduced Sponge the Teacher.

All events were performed to packed audiences of delighted pupils.

Thanks go to pupils and staff for contributing so wholeheartedly to this campaign and congratulations to the extraordinary young people on raising an impressive amount of money for charity.

As well as Children in Need, chosen charities this year include The Sandville, Porthcawl Stroke Club, Trinity Care and Support, Follow Your Dreams, Velindre, Girlguiding, PSPA, Action on Hearing Loss, Macmillan and the RNLI.
