Almost 50 jobs to go after closure of Rest Hotel in Porthcawl is announced

A LANDMARK hotel in Porthcawl is set to cease trading with the loss of almost 50 jobs.

The news comes despite plans for a £10 million overhaul of the 150-year-old Rest Hotel in Rest Bay.

That was approved by Bridgend Council earlier this month, 18 months after they were put forward.

But Rob Hough, who chairs the convalescent hotels’s management board, said the delay and a 40 per cent fall in visitor numbers meant the “difficult” decision had been made to cease trading in October.
