The monthly meeting for members and guests of the Glamorgan Farmers’ Golf Society was held last Thursday at the Vale Resort at Hensol when those participating had the opportunity of playing the Lakes course which they found in extremely good condition.

With a range of excellent prizes provided by the days generous sponsor Herbert R Thomas Co of Cowbridge together with perfect weather conditions it was not surprising the standard of golf was extremely high.

Returning the highest individual stableford score of 37 points to win the Herbert R Thomas Cup was Bryan Owen followed by Trevor Wooding who scored 36 points.

Society captain Ray Thomas finished third with 35 points followed by Jim Hayes who scored 34 points.

In the guest and visitors section Matthew England with 33 points finished in first place just ahead of Robert Calcaterra who also scored 33 points. Dr John Brazier finished in third place with 32 points.

Nearest the pins on the par-3 holes were John Davies, Dan Jarvis, Henry Filer, Reg Davies and Peter Francis.

Society president Geraint Davies hit the longest drive down the selected fairway to win the longest drive prize and Robbie Llewellyn made a welcome return to the winners enclosure to collect a bottle of whiskey when correctly guessing 81 balls would not make the journey home. This raised £75 for the Barnados charity.

The society’s next get together will be the Christmas meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 14 at St Athan Golf Club.
