Athletic settle for share of the spoils

MARGAM YC defeated Gas Club 5-1 in the MPN Windows Port Talbot League.

Margam went 1-0 up when Gareth Howard capitalised on a short back pass to beat the keeper.

A scrappy first half ended with Gas Club levelling after their striker beat the Margam keeper to the ball and finished well.

Margam took control in the second half, with Howard curling in his second. Then a quick move in midfield and a deft flick from Chris Brooks released Howard for his third.

Chris Brooks was on hand to make it four and an injury-time free-kick from Cori Davies rounded off the scoring.

Croeserw Athletic and Cwmavon FC shared a 2-2 draw.

Croeserw opened the scoring when Jared Lee chased down a long punt by keeper Geraint Ferguson and slotted home.

Athletic continued to be the stronger of the two sides, however Cwmavon levelled when a looping shot from 25 yards went over the keeper and into the net.

Cwmavon began to get their foot into the game in the second period and started to create more chances than they did in the first half.

With eight minutes left Cwmavon took the lead when a square ball across the box was met by a striker who slotted it into the net.

But almost immediately Croeserw equalised when a good ball into the box by Craig Evans was poked in by Lee Davies.

Porthcawl Athletic A won 5-0 at Croeserw Athletic B in the reserve division.

Croeserw started off strongly but could not turn their possession into goals.

Porthcawl then took command and scored two goals before the break.

In the second period Porthcawl added to their lead when they slotted home from a rebound after a penalty had been saved.

Two more goals rounded off a comfortable victory.

Margam YC dominated from start to finish against a weakened Cwmavon side at Groeswen and ran out 9-0 winners. Goytre United were the biggest scorers of the week as they thumped Kenfig Hill 13-2.
