A young hairdressing apprentice from Sully, leaves on Sunday for a 15-day work experience placement in Spain.

Jadene Bennett, 21, who works for The Hair Den in Barry, is one of seven apprentices chosen to go to Tarragona where they will work in salons and attend workshops at the Schwarzkopf Academy, Barcelona and the Institute Cal Lipolis, the college partner for the visit.

Jadene’s apprenticeship in hairdressing is being delivered by Bridgend-based ISA Training, who have organised the Spanish work experience placement with funding support from the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme for education, training, youth and sport.

“I am really looking forward to seeing how the Spanish people work compared to us and the different techniques that they use,” she said. “I have always been interested in hair and I like to experiment.”

She has her sights set on international travel. “I like the idea of working and being able to see new places and visit different countries,” she explained. “The work experience in Spain will give me a good idea of what it’s like to work away from home.”

Among the other other lucky apprentices is Amy Wensley from USTU, Porthcawl.
