On Wednesday, August 9, Llantwit Major Bowling Club’s A team travelled to Porthcawl for a triples game.

The weather was nice and sunny – unfortunately, with one exception, Llantwit’s bowling was not as good as the climate!

Mike Everleigh, Richard Bayliss and Geoff Timms won by 15-14; Roy French, Ambrose Horgan and Paul Brown lost 12-16; Ken Williams, John Ball and John O’Brien went down 11-24 and Doug Oatley, Naomi Baelz and Mike Jones lost 6-22.

Special thanks to Naomi for stepping up to the plate and helping the team out.

Last Thursday saw Pontyclun visiting Llantwit Major for another triples league game.

Llanwit’s winning rink comprised Ken Williams, John Ball and John O’Brien, who won 19-15. Ambose Horgan, Dave Post and Paul Brown managed to draw 14-14, but sadly Richard Bayliss, John Moisan and Geoff Timms lost 13-22, as did Mike Everleigh, Dave Thomas and Mike Harmon, who went down by 9-23.

Last Monday we travelled to Ystrad Mynach to play a rearranged league game – these are usually played on Saturday’s so our body clocks were slightly off kilter!

The best performers were Glyn Fox, Roy French, Geoff Timms and Graham Merchant, who won 17 -13.

In a freak statistical anomaly, two of our rinks both lost by 13-17, the culprits being Derek Mutlow, Ambose Horgan, Mike Jones and Paul Brown together with Richard Bayliss, Ken Williams, John Ball and John O’Brien.

Lyn Fry, John Moisan, Dave Post and Mike Harmon must have been affected by the hot sun as they succumbed to an 8-26 thrashing!

Many thanks to Ystrad Mynach for an excellent post-match buffet.
