Cadoxton Barry 4-1 Porthcawl Town

CADOXTON Barry ran out comfortable 4-1 victors at home to Porthcawl Town, after a stuttering start that saw both sides score within the opening two minutes.

Cadoxton attacked down the left immediately from the kick off and, when Morgan was floored in the box just 20 seconds into the game, Sansome stepped up to convert the resulting penalty low into the left-hand corner to put the hosts in front.

But anything that CB could do, Porthcawl decided they could match.

Straight from the restart, they surged down their own left flank towards Cadoxton Barry’s goal to hit a fabulous rising angled drive that left debutant ‘keeper Walters no chance to level the scores at one apiece barely two minutes in.

With neither side able to maintain the frenetic pace, the game settled into a fairly even end-to-end affair for a spell, although chances came and went for Oaten and Jackhontaw, who fired narrowly over the upright from the back post.

A high Porthcawl ball out of defence caused confusion in the CB backline, with Walters called on to punch a goal bound shot to safety, but the move that turned the game in Cadoxton Barry’s favour came in the 34th minute when Powell won an aerial battle to head on to Sansome. He, in turn, moved the ball on to Morgan who beautifully weaved around two challenges, stroking home from ten yards to restore Cadoxton Barry’s lead going into half-time.

A brief renaissance at the start of the second half saw a Porthcawl dipping effort from the left fly only a whisker wide of the Cadoxton Barry upright, but beyond this point CB gradually played their way into a position of confident control.

And the hosts were to extend their lead with half an hour remaining. Morgan’s high ball forwards found Oaten, who battled hard to retain possession before lobbing the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

It took just five minutes for CB to increase their tally to four, with Powell’s cross towards the far left converted thanks to an excellent header from Jackhontaw, with the ball nestling just inside the post.

Porthcawl were looking brittle at this stage but the back four rallied and did well not to concede any further goals in the final fifteen minutes.
