It was changeover night for Porthcawl Lions Club recently when Rhys Lewis took charge of the club as president for the coming 12 months.

Mr Lewis served as president some years ago, so has the experience and energy to take the club forward. Currently, the club has some 30 members both male and female, and at the changeover ceremony held at The Grove Golf Club, four new members were installed, two ladies and two men.

Around a third of the Porthcawl club are female and several are officers of the club and have responsible positions. The club works hard throughout the year raising money for various charities, organisations and individuals.

In the last year, nearly £20,000 passed through the accounts. The majority of the money raised went to local organisations in the Porthcawl, Bridgend and south Wales area.

The club meets at the Hi-Tide on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 8am. Full details of the activities on porthcawllions.org.

The club is busy every Sunday at their car boot sale at Porthcawl rugby ground from 8am to 1pm where a pitch costs £6.

Look out also for the club in John Street with its book sale and on August 4 at the rugby ground the vintage fair will be held with stalls and games.

Every penny raised goes to good causes.
