The Christmas meeting of the Glamorgan Farmers’ Golf Society was held last Thursday at St Athan Golf Club with 39 members all attempting to return home with one of the many seasonal prizes on offer.

Despite the wet underfoot conditions several members returned quite impressive scores with Julian Kelly leading the field with 34 stableford points.

Runner-up with 32 points was Gareth Perkins. Four members finished on 31 points including Martyn Edwards, Dai John, Society Captain Geraint Davies and also Huw Williams.

The annual over-80s competition for the four veteran senior members of the society was again keenly contested with a better back nine by Aubrey Thomas proving vital.

Runner-up in this section was Aubrey Bowen followed by Glyn Watts-Jones and John Davies.

Dai Llewellyn once again gets a mention in our monthly report this time by winning two of the Watts Morgan sponsored prizes in the par’3 three competition.

Other winners in this section for being nearest the pin were Keith Gibson and Julian Kelly.

Not suprisingly Dan Jarvis, the youngest member of the society, hit the longest drive on the Bear Hotel, Cowbridge sponsored hole and secretary Tony McCarthy luckily guessed 27 balls would fail to return home to collect the Premier Turf Ltd sponsored bottle of whisky. This raised £80 for the Llantwit Major Lifeguards Fund.

Mention must be made of the excellent evening meal prepared by caterer Leanne and her staff enjoyed by the members who were also delighted to welcome life member Gwyn Evans and John Lee, who is now an honorary member of the society.

Finally, society captain Geraint Davies and the committee of the Glamorgan Farmers’ Golf Society wish golfers throughout the Vale a very happy and blessed Christmas and New Year.
