Christmas movies loved by you and some of Wales’ famous faces

We all love a Christmas movie to get us ready for the festivities – but we asked a few famous Welsh faces to tell us what their favourite seasonal films are and why.

Erin Richards

Elf…Could it BE anymore Christmassy?

Gotham’s Barbara Kean aka glamorous Erin Richards from Penarth, didn’t have to think twice before choosing her favourite.

She said: “Elf every time – I love a man in tights!”

However, she’s not so keen on another family favourite, adding: “My cousins and sisters make me watch Nightmare Before Christmas every year, and I hate it.”

Amy Morgan

White Christmas

Amy, who we’ll see again behind the counter in Mr Selfridge in the New Year, picks a Christmas classic.

“I love White Christmas. My nan would get the video out when I was little a few weeks before Christmas and we’d sit round and watch it together.

“I loved all the gorgeous costumes and songs! It was brilliant!”

Steve Jones Phylicia Jackson

A Christmas Carol

Glamorous newlyweds, TV presenter Steve Jones from the Rhondda and his wife model/food blogger, Phylicia Jackson, are also Christmas movie lovers.

Phylicia told us: “We love Disney’s A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. It has stunning visuals!”

Sarra Elgan-Easterby

Marc Wooton stars in Nativity 3: Dude Where's My Donkey
Sarra’s next Christmas watch – Nativity 3

Sports presenter Sarra Elgan–Easterby was forced to make a choice of her favourite and plumped for a classic:

“(There are) so many! But If I had to choose, White Christmas. But Simon, the kids and I can’t wait to see Nativity 3!

Matt Johnson

Jelly of the month club? Clark Griswold is not impressed
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

TV’s favourite Caerphilly-born, heavy–metal loving hunk Matt Johnson couldn’t narrow it down, until he was made to…

He said: “National Lampoon’s (Christmas Vacation), Elf, and Die Hard.”

In the end he went for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Jamie Adams

“Oh my God! Home Alone is in ANOTHER Christmas film list!”

Surely an expert on Christmas films is director Jamie Adams who has recently brought us the first Welsh-made festive flick – A Wonderful Christmas Time, wich was filmed in Porthcawl.

Jamie said: “My favourite Christmas movie , (apart from A Wonderful Christmas Time!), is Home Alone.

“I was around the same age as Kevin McCallister and as much as I remember being upset with his parents for leaving him behind I loved seeing this kid have so much fun in this huge house in a beautiful American suburb.

“When he defeats the bad guys and is reunited with his family, especially his mother, it truly is just a beautiful, warm and sincere cinematic moment – but that’s John Hughes writing – he knew what he was doing that guy – genius.”
