Civil Service aiming high

SWANSEA Civil Service boosted their promotion bid in division three of the Thomas Carroll South Wales Cricket Association with an impressive win over league leaders Briton Ferry Town.

Town were bowled out for just 86 and Civil Service recovered from a shaky start to reach their target with four wickets in hand.

Matthew Griffiths took 3-34, while Gruffudd Prydderch picked up two wickets, but it was Ben Novis who produced the best bowling figures, taking three scalps for just five runs from his four overs.

Swansea Civil Service initially made heavy work of their small target after falling to 3-2 but Novis (10 not out) and Griffiths (22 not out) saw them home.

The result means Civil Service are third in the table and just two points behind second-placed Porthcawl, who lost to Maesteg by 37 runs.

Maesteg were put in to bat and posted 224-6 thanks mainly to Ryan Parry’s 75, and Porthcawl were bowled out for 187 in reply.

Landore had to settle for a winning draw against Margam. Landore openers Kevin Davies (35) and Carl Lawrence (85) got the innings off to a flying start, while Jay Copp hit 75 as Landore declared on 252-7.

Elwyn Pugh took 5-70 for Margam and was one of only three batsmen of theirs to reach double figures in their run chase, which fell dismally short at 114-9.

Elsewhere, Pwll beat Drefach by 12 runs and Pontyberem were victorious against Hills Plymouth.
