A new consultation is to take place on the introduction of resident permit parking in Bridgend.

Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) has been looking at introducing the scheme since 2014.

It carried out a consultation exercise with residents in 2015 but was unable to implement its plans due to legal issues relating to on-street traffic orders.

The corporate director for communities Mark Shepherd told councillors at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, May 15, the issues had now been solved but due to the amount of time since the first consultation, another consultation was now necessary.

In 2014, cabinet members approved the permit tariff charge of £20 which would cover the annual administration costs.

A consultation exercise in Porthcawl which was carried out at the same time as the one in Bridgend met with insufficient support from the majority of residents to progress the scheme to a formal consultation.

There is currently funding of £128,000 within the council’s medium term financial strategy programme to introduce the scheme.
