Councillor David Newton-Williams elected as new mayor for Porthcawl

Porthcawl’s new Mayor is Councillor David Newton-Williams.

It is the town council veteran’s fourth time as Mayor. He will be assisted in his duties by Deputy Mayor Rob Lee.

Coun Newton-Williams and Coun Lee were elected by fellow members at a meeting of Porthcawl Town Council last Thursday .

Outgoing Mayor Sean Aspey, who broke fundraising records during his year in office, said: “It’s been a great experience and I have been very proud to represent our town to the best of my ability and I hope I didn’t let you down.”

Coun Newton-Williams said: “First of all, I would like to say how much I have enjoyed working under Sean. I think we have been very lucky to have Sean and the breath of fresh air he has brought to this town.

“It is a hard act to follow and I am delighted to be in this position.

“Thank you very much for the confidence you have shown in me by electing me to this position and I promise I will do this to the best of my ability.”

The Mayoress for 2015-16 is Gaynor Newton-Williams and the Deputy Mayoress is Ann Lee.
