A local girl has raised almost £1,000 for charity after having her hair cut off for charity.

Freya Yates, a year-11 student at Cowbridge Comprehensive School, had the drastic head shave to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care – a cause close to her heart.

She visited Morgan’s Hair Salon in Cowbridge, where her long hair was cut off to be sent to the Little Princess Trust, to be made into wigs for children having treatment for cancer.

Her proud mother Claire Green told The GEM:?“Freya wanted to help Macmillan as they were a great help when her great-nan, Lucie Taylor, who died four years ago.

“Freya said: ‘She was a kind, loving and bright spirit, but when she was at her lowest, the Macmillan nurses were there to help her.’

“We are thrilled that she has raised £920 – which came from cash pledges from friends and family, and also from donations to her ‘Brave the Shave’ page.”
