Pictured from right to left are Mrs Liz Anderson, the ladies secretary, presenting this year’s open pairs winners shield to Mrs Debbie Taylor and Mrs Lil Martin at Bridgend Municipal Bowling Club.

Seen also in the photo are the runners-up Mr Wynne Walters and Mrs Carol Phillips.

The competition was played among 24 member competitors on a round-robin, knockout basis.

Players commenced bowling on all six rinks of the bowling green simultaneously at 10am on Sunday, May 28.

Lunch was served in the pavilion when those who had reached the semi-finals was announced.

An exciting final was eventually held that afternoon watched by those who had been knocked out in the early rounds plus member supporters seen applauding in the background of this photo.

The final was played over nine ends and the score was nine shots to each pair on the ninth end!

An extra end had to be played when Lil Martin and Debbie Taylor won by one shot. It was a day enjoyed by all with refreshments provided throughout the day.

One of the bystanders was overheard praising the standard of play which indeed was excellent.

The club are looking to recruit new members both in the ladies and men’s sections. Further details can be found on the club’s website,
