Dinas Vets, with the support of the local community council, hosted a Family Fun Day and Fun Dog Show at the common on Monday, August 28.

As well as a range of stalls, the highlight was the dog show. Categories included ‘Best Pedigree’, ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Champion in Show’.

The ‘Champion in Show’ was Milly, with owner Catrina and the winners of the 11-legged race were Matilda and Lily with their spaniels.

The event fills the August Bank Holiday Monday slot, which for some years has been missing from the village’s social calendar.

Dinas Powys Vets sponsored the day with Dinas Powys Community Council providing a grant of £500.

Musical entertainment was provided by Dark Horse, who played many memorable numbers.

Much of the work fell on the shoulders of Emily from Dinas Powys Vets, based on Cardiff Road, and her small band of supporters.

Dinas Powys Football Club held a football obstacle course with coach Ray Davies working hard under a blazing sun.

Sarah Bentley of Open Gardens sold plants, an organisation that raises funds for charity and introducesnew specimens to the public.

The Scouts, the WI, Crepe Escape, Network Rail, and Daisy Graze, who produces local preserves and conserves, were also at the show.

St John Ambulance Cymru attended to keep everyone safe.
