For their first Christmas, staff at Porthcawl Medical Centre are arranging a series of community events – with the practice’s Christmas tree as the centrepiece.

Practice manager Nicola Willis told The GEM: “The practice has bought a 20ft Christmas tree and we have invited schools in Porthcawl to take part in a competition to design decorations for it.

“We are grateful to Rhys of John Davey Builders Merchants, Bridgend, for collecting and delivering the tree.

“Also, some of the schools will be coming along during the first week of December to sing carols round around our Christmas tree and they will also be collecting money for their chosen charity.

“Members of the public will be welcome at all the events.”

On Monday, December 2, at 1pm, Nottage Primary school choir will be singing.

On Tuesday December 3, at 1.45pm, West Park Primary will be singing.

On Thursday, December 5, at 1.30pm, Newton Primary School will be singing.

Nicola continued: “Then, on Friday, December 13, at 2pm, the Mayor of Porthcawl, Cllr Graham Walter, will be presenting the prizes to the competition winners, and for this event we have been lucky to have Porthcawl Male Voice Choir agree to come along and sing for us.

“We are grateful as well to Tina, Julian and Alison at Guttridge’s who are kindly donating a tree for the first floor surgery area.”
