GCSE results 2020: Grades, analysis and reaction from schools around Wales

More happy faces at Cardiff’s Eastern High

One of those schools was Eastern High in Rumney, where students made their way through the one-way system to collect results and speak with teachers. Afterward, many stuck around and took the opportunity to enjoy time with friends, chatting away in the bright sunshine.

“I’m feeling good. I’m feeling relieved,” said student Kyle Champion, who picked up his results.

Kyle achieved 1 A*, 3 As, 4 Bs and 2 Cs and is heading to St David’s College next for his A-Levels.

He will be joined by Letitia Spear, who was beaming with her results and will also be going on to study A-Levels.

“I’m really excited to go to St David’s College,” she said.

Letita achieved 4A*s and 8As and 1B, and after her A-Levels she is hoping to study Law and Psychology at university.

Letitia and Kyle will also be joined at St David’s by Olivia Tranter, who achieved 1 A, 6 Bs and 9 Cs, and Megan Hobbs, who got 2 As, 9 Bs and 4Cs.

Nearby, other students were so surprised by their good grades that they stood in shock as they opened their envelopes.

“I’m happy, I didn’t think I was going to get anywhere near this,” said Abdull Ahmohammad, who was thrilled with his 11 A*s and 2 As.

“I’ve got a scholarship for Cardiff Academy, and I want to become a neurosurgeon.”

Talking about not being able to sit exams, he said: “I was stressed out about underperforming. But the teachers knew what I was capable of and predicted the right results.”

Abdull will study Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Economics at Cardiff Academy.
