The Glamorgan Holiday Hotel has added a new reclining chair to its sun lounge, thanks to the Porthcawl Christmas Swim Committee.

This much-loved charity-owned hotel on Porthcawl seafront provides short-term holiday breaks for older people and people with disabilities and was one of the recent beneficiaries of the latest Christmas swim.

Chris Lewis, the hotel manager, said: “Our relationship with the Porthcawl Swim goes back many years with swimmers calling into the hotel on Christmas morning. We are very pleased to benefit this year.

“We consulted with our elderly guests and a new recliner chair was a clear winner. I also want to thank Bridgend Mobility Centre for giving us a good deal!

“Since arriving last week, the new recliner chair has proved a hit with guests enjoying the recent warm spell in the sun lounge.”

Marilyn Smith, on behalf of the Porthcawl Christmas Swim, said: “We’re delighted the money is being put to such good use for the benefits of older people taking a respite holiday in Porthcawl.”

Wendy Richards, also of the Swim Committee, added: “It looks great and I really like the features. I’m sure it will be popular.”

During the unveiling, members of the Christmas Swim Committee and the Deputy Mayor of Porthcawl, Coun Robert Lee, took time to chat to hotel guests and Jill Nicholson, the regional director of the Cartrefi Cymru (the charity that owns the hotel) arranged a tour of the hotel.
