The Rotary Club of Porthcawl recently held its annual handover evening at the Atlantic Hotel.

Outgoing president, Jeff Perren, handed over the chain of office to the club’s new president, Robert Aubrey.

Although the evening was enjoyed by all who attended (including mayor Rob Lee and mayoress Ann Lee), it was with a little poignancy that the new leadership team came into being.

Mr Perren began his tenure of office last year as the club was mourning the death of club secretary, Anne Jarrett. Also, early this year, the club was doubly saddened by the sudden death of Rowena Millward, who was to have become president elect at the Handover.

Mr Perren and his outgoing team are to be commended for the quiet, dignified way they dealt with the emotional and practical issues which ensued.

Both members will be sadly missed by fellow Rotarians, who are grateful to former president, Sandra Townsend, who has stepped in to become the new president elect and will begin her office next year.
