It’s carnival time again in Porthcawl this Saturday, July 23, and the organisers are promising a fun-filled day for the family

The theme for this year is ‘Life on a beach’ – and there have been plenty of community groups coming forward to enter a float in the Buckaneers carnival procession, or joining it as walkers in fancy dress.

Organiser Kerry Marlow told The GEM:?“We have numerous float and walker entries. The procession will be led by the RNLI, Police and Coastguard, followed by the Westside Allstars Comedy Band.

“En route we will be entertained by the Pre Hee men, South Cymru Sapphires Marching Band, Pencoed Tumblers and Seren Arabic.

“All of our collectors will have sealed buckets, so please give generously, as we donate everything to the local community.”

As usual, the procession will start at 1.30pm from Sandy Bay Caravan park, going along New Road, Eastern Promenade, Portway roundabout, John Street, Promenade, Mary Street, Suffolk Place, South Road and Fitzhammon Road – ending at the rugby club.

Mr Marlow said:?“For safety reasons, a road closure will be in operation from 1.30pm until 5.30pm. We apologise if this disrupts any travel plans during that period.

“At Porthcawl rugby club, there is a travelling fair, numerous food and drink outlets, with stalls selling all kinds of wares.

“We will be entertained by resident DJ Robbie and Bridge FM. The main act is Joseph Peace – performing fire stunts and he will be supported by the Pencoed Tumblers.

“We also have a magic workshop for the children. Please come along and support us.”
