Just a Bit of Banter from the Land of the Red Dragon and Three Black Sheep

London (PRWEB UK) 22 August 2013

First time novelist Chris Westlake has just published his first full length novel after being snapped up by Mirador Publishing earlier this year. ‘Just A Bit Of Banter, Like…’ tells the story of Welsh lad Nick Evans as he returns to his home town of Ogmore after trying to make a name for himself in London and burning out in spectacular fashion.

Having won numerous writing awards and competitions Chris decided to take the challenge to write a full length novel. “We were very fortunate to sign Chris,” said Sarah Luddington, Mirador’s Commissioning Editor. “Gentle, good natured humour such as this is very difficult to write and it is rare to find such a talent in a debut novelist.”

Growing up in a part of the country where sheep outnumber humans by a factor of ten has given Chris a particularly quirky perspective on the world which translates into his writing, giving him a unique style rich in real life characters one comes to love right from the opening page.

Destined to be an author from an early age he began writing at the age of seven, spinning tales of witches and a sausage dog named Scotty but by the age of ten he took early retirement and didn’t pick up a pen again until his early thirties.

His writing curriculum vitae include anthologies of short stories, erotic fiction and letters to women’s magazines. Chris is nothing if not eclectic. “I’ve become fascinated by comedy,” Chris said. “And I haven’t even scratched the surface yet. It amazes me that so many different things make people laugh.”

Already hard at work with his next novel scheduled for a 2014 release Chris is keen to keep his focus firmly on his homeland.

“My second novel will have the same strong basics – a Welsh setting, dark humour and characters you really care for. It is a larger project, however. It delves into the modern history of places like Merthyr and Porthcawl. It is darker, more grizzly. I am sure it will still make you laugh, however.”

‘Just A Bit Of Banter, Like…’ is published by Mirador Publishing and is available through all good bookshops and online outlets both as a paperback and eBook in all major formats.
