Karate club use their strength to raise finds for typhoon appeal

Members of a Bridgend karate club used all their strength to raise funds for the Philippines disaster relief fund today.

About 12 members from he Kyokushin Karate Wales club braved the cold and wet weather to take part in a sponsored truck pushing challenge at Coney Beach in Porthcawl with £150 raised so far.

The challenge was part of a national Kyokushin Karate effort to generate funds for victims of Typhoon Haiyan which devastated communities in the Philippines.

Speaking afterwards, Senpai Jason Manley said: “It was a lot tougher than we thought it would be and we were hoping to haul it from one end of the beach to the other.

“But we’d done so well once we got there that we decided to pull it all the way back to the other end as well. So some people said they would sponsor us double because we did double the distance.

“It was a great effort from all the students.”
