The Rotary Club of Porthcawl was given the difficult task recently of judging this year’s entries in the Rotary Young Writer competition.

A large number of children from seven to 10 years from West Park Primary, Nottage Primary and Porthcawl Primary schools took up the challenge of writing about ‘Reflections’ and, just as last year, the standard of the young writers’ work was adjudged extremely high.

However, there could only be one winner and the pupil judged to have been the best Rotary Young Writer for 2017 was Lidia Stamp from Porthcawl Primary School.

Close behind her were Jasmin Roberts (second) also from Porthcawl Primary and Hallie Maine-James (third) from Nottage Primary. All three were awarded cash prizes and a certificate. The schools also received a certificate for having supported the Rotary competition.

The three judges from the club’s youth committee: Barbara Stubbs (who chairs the committee) Pat Markey, and Ron Jones had the task of reading through all the entries and deciding the winners.

The Rotary Club of Porthcawl has congratulated those who entered the competition and wished all the budding authors every success in the future.
