Llantwit Major reserves came out victorious in a tough battle against a strong St Athan B side.

With St Athan 1st team not having a fixture many of their players became available to cause the Major problems, they did just that within 30 seconds with a quick goal. Five minutes later, it was 2-0 to the Saints as the long ball caused problems.

Chris Vinson soon got Llantwit on the scoresheet with a burst on the wing, to slot the ball around the stranded keeper. Llantwit then levelled the score, making it 2-2 – Andy Shaw calmly passing the ball in the net after selling the keeper the other way.

Llantwit, with their tails up, started to dominate the game with numerous chances pestering the Saints’ keeper. Finally they took the lead after another Gethin Jennings’ screamer, which confirmed the remarkable comeback from being 2-0 down.

Before half time, the front two of Max Morgan and Rob Kemp, helped the Major create chances – with Shaw doubling his tally as the defence were unable to withstand this Major pressure.

Halftime saw St Athan fight back, to press Llantwit on the ball, while piling pressure on their defence. Phill Grafton helped the Major keep their two-goal lead with important challenges, to break up play in front of the back four.

With Llantwit keeping it tight at the back, they were able to counter anything that the Saints had to offer with three 1v1s which went wide. Finally, Llantwit got the well deserved fifth, Sam Mawhinney putting Chris Vinson through yet again, to send the Major away with a comfortable win.

End result: St Athan 2, Llantwit Major Reserves 5.

Team: Davies, Tracey, Coyle, Cutter, Garrett, Vinson (2), Jennings (1), Grafton, Shaw (2), Kemp, Morgan.

Substitutes: Mawhinney, Pilcher, Callard, Kempson, Dawson.
