“This strange photo, of the deer, was taken at Margam Country Park on a foggy, rainy day in February.”

Editor’s note: The deer in the photo appear to be red deer, one of two indigenous species in the UK, the other being roe deer. Fallow deer were probably introduced to England by the Normans.

Reeves’ muntjac, Chinese water deer and sika deer were introduced to the UK in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition to a herd of red deer, Margam Country Park also has a small herd of Pere David’s deer.

Deer have been hunted in Margam since the 12th century, and venison, as well as lamb, from the estate is available.
