Plans for a new maritime centre near Porthcawl Harbour have been lodged with the council, and the public will have a chance to look and comment on the proposals.

Porthcawl Harbourside CIC recently submitted a planning application for the Porthcawl Maritime Centre and Harbour Quarter at Cosy Corner, and will be holding a public consultation event at The Y Centre on Saturday, June 4, from 10am to 4pm.

The GEM understands that submitting a planning application is an essential step in the process of applying for grant funding.

A spokeswoman for Porthcawl Harbourside said:?“SeaQuest, our coastal science and discovery division is already operational and provides sessions for local schoolchildren, groups and families.

“SeaQuest also organises regular talks on local marine ecology. Thanks to Coastal Communities Funding, we have recently taken delivery of our ‘Sea Bus’, which came all the way from the USA.

“The sea bus is a travelling rock pool aquarium and will help us to deliver further SeaQuest sessions during term time and school holidays, displaying on-shore ecology, food chains and habitats.

“Thanks to The Welsh Church Fund, we have also purchased a beach wheelchair, which will make our outdoor sessions inclusive.”
