Porthcawl’s Christmas Morning Swim is 52 years old, and the Lions’ Boxing Day run holds its 35th ‘running’ this year.

Not quite as old as these, but not far off, the ‘Round The Bay Swim’ has been held by Porthcawl Lifeguards since 1983, and this year takes place on Sunday, August 14.

Because of the tide this year, the swim will have a 4pm start, with registration on the day from 3pm to 3.45pm.

As always, there is the option of the short or long course. The short course is around 750 metres, and consists of a swim from the beach across to the slipway – contestants will need to walk back, though!

The long course is around 1,500 metres and is an out and back route.

Entry costs are £15 for short, and £20 for long course, and all profits from this event are ploughed back into the club to ensure its long-term survival.

The swim is a great challenge and is open to all those over 14, so if you fancy ‘doing the bay’ for a good cause, find out more by visiting
