Porthcawl Buckaneers Carnival is going to be a colourful and interesting event this year.

The procession takes place on Saturday, July 21 and the theme this year is ‘A Year by the Sea.’

The procession will be led by Porthcawl Museum Suffragette Float, circa Porthcawl 1918. Roy Noble is Lloyd George and he is being lobbied by suffragette leaders which include a number of Welsh women politicians, including our own MP Madeleine Moon, accompanied by Suzy Davis, Ann Clwyd and many more.

The float will have 150 women marching in support, displaying banners and sashes.

Another 11 floats and walkers with the theme ‘A Year by the Sea’ will follow behind with an array of colour and music. They are accompanied by street entertainers which include a galleon ship, seahorses and a giant lobster!

There will be road closures for the procession and the organisers apologise for the delays.

Porthcawl Buckaneers are advising if you wish to come and see the parade, come early. The best locations to see the parade will be the Eastern Promenade, John Street, The Promenade and Porthcawl Rugby Club.

There will be a carnival field at Porthcawl Rugby Club and entry onto the field is free. There will be a travelling fair, numerous stalls, charity stalls, sideshows, bouncy castles, a variety of refreshments, children’s entertainers, main acts and much more.

An exhibition in a marquee will outline the future for Porthcawl – a 3D virtual reality experience with avatars; entrance free.
