Porthcawl Elvis Festival: Everything you need to know

What is it?

As the name suggests, Porthcawl Elvis Festival is all about Elvis. Yep, now in its 11th year, it’s a three-day event dedicated to Mr Presley in the seaside resort of Porthcawl. It’s actually the biggest festival of its kind in the world!

Where and when is it?

Porthcawl Elvis Festival runs between September 26 and 28 for a weekend of rock ‘n’ roll. The annual celebration of the King takes place right across the town in more than 20 venues.

The Grand Pavilion and Hi Tide are the major hosts, with over 100 shows across the weekend. Other venues joining in the fun include the Bay, Blue Water Club, Brentwood Hotel, the Cabin, General Picton, Porthcawl Hotel, Rock Inn, the Seahorse, Ship and Castle and the Swan.

What to expect?

Expect a rockin’ good time as 30,000 Presley enthusiasts come to town. There’ll be plenty of free and paid-for shows to enjoy from tribute artists performing classic hits… perfect for a good singalong.

What should I wear?

Fancy dress is optional, but it’s all part of the fun. Oh yes, you’ll see people sporting blue suede shoes right through to full-on quiffs and jumpsuits. We rather like the fifties look – think Grease, Pink Ladies and T Birds attire!

Is it free to go along?

Yes, there are lots of free events where you can just turn up and watch a tribute artist or two. Official shows are paid-for, but you’ll need to be quick as most are nearly sold out.

If you’re a newbie to the festival just pop along and soak up the brilliant atmosphere – guaranteed you’ll be all shook up!

Where can I park?

There are a number of council-run long stay pay and display car parks you could use including Hillsboro’ Place North (The Portway), Hillsboro’ Place South (Dock Street) and Rest Bay (Lock’s Common Road).

Where can I stay?

You’ll be lucky to find accommodation in Porthcawl, with hotels and bed and breakfasts booked months in advance. In fact, some super fans have even started to plan ahead to next year’s event.

For last minute places to stay, try contacting the Bridgend Tourism Office on 01656 815338 for assistance.

What’s the weather going to be like?

It’s not forecast to be a scorcher, but there are currently no signs of a major downpour. It’s likely to be cloudy with sunny spells – pack a mac, though… just in case!

Anything else I need to know?

That’s it, have fun!
