With several players unavailable for this fixture, Porthcawl still managed to field a match-winning team against their Swansea Valley opponents Vadre, emerging winners by 15 points to 9.

From the kick off Porthcawl immediately showed their game plan by running the ball at every opportunity.

Vadre held firm and using their big no8 to gain the hard yards started to come more into the game. They were soon rewarded for their endeavour, aided by the home team’s indiscipline, with two penalty kicks to give them a 6-0 lead.

However the Seaweeds responded to this by a try, wide out, from wing Joe Muir to reduce the deficit to a half-time score of 6-5 to the visitors.

From the restart Porthcawl hit a purple patch with forwards and backs combining well to produce some of the best rugby played by the Seaweeds this season.

With tries coming from centre Jake Thomas and captain Richard Hnyda, Porthcawl seemed to be well in control.

Vadre however had other thoughts and battled hard to gain a foothold in the home half. They were once again rewarded for their efforts with a penalty which gave them a well deserved losing bonus point and a final score of 15-9.

Other results – Ystradgynlais RFC youth 12, Porthcawl RFC youth 16; Porthcawl RFC under-13s 31, Tondu RFC under- 13s 12.
