After recent reports that the plan to build a new primary health care centre in Newton, Porthcawl, had hit problems, a spokeswoman for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University (ABMU) Health Board has told The GEM that it is still on track.

It was reported that the highways department in Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) had raised an objection, saying that there were insufficient parking spaces included in the development.

The GEM asked ABMU whether, in the light of this, plans for the centre had changed.

However, a spokeswoman said: “The health board remains fully committed to providing the residents of Porthcawl with a new primary care centre that will meet their needs.

“The planning application for the new Primary Care and Community Services Centre has been submitted.

“The application has been deferred until the May 12 Development Control Committee meeting so the health board can provide further supporting information.”

The phrase, “further supporting information”, it can be assumed, is likely to include a response to the highways department objection.
