As the Porthcawl Lions marked the passing the centenary of Lions Clubs International, and as his year of presidency came to a close, Don Tickner (a charter member of Porthcawl Lions) expressed his thanks to club members and the wider community for their support, and wished incoming president Andrew Collier good luck for a successful year of service and fund-raising work.

Mr Collier, who takes the helm as club president for the second time, stressed that there was still a great deal of work to do to promote the Lions Club International centennial year, and said: “I look forward to working with all sectors of the community of Porthcawl and surrounding areas, to ensure the Lions’ message spreads far and wide.

“I have a great team of members working with me and together, our planned events will showcase the commitment our members have to raising funds for deserving causes, whether locally, nationally or internationally.”

The club’s ongoing events include the Vintage Fayre (August 5 at the Porthcawl Rugby Club) and the car boot sales, which continue through August and into September.

The club has also started planning its autumn and winter schedule of activities, details of which will follow in the next few months.
