From Dyffryn Gardens to Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club, Porthcawl Male Choir has enjoyed a busy and successful week.

This began with a ‘Night at the Musicals’ at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club on August 11 to a summer’s evening concert at Dyffryn Gardens on August 18.

The first of these concerts at the golf club the choir entertained the audience with songs from Showboat, My Fair Lady and many more from a variety of musicals.

The choir was well supported by the two excellent soloists, Ros Evans and Ray Daniels. Both sang individual pieces from Les Miserables and then collaborated with a duet from Les Mis.

The lady captain Mrs Caroline Jones and her committee were all very pleased with the entertainment provided as were the assembled audience. The concert MC for the evening was Mr Gareth Evans.

The concert at Dyffryn Gardens was part of their summer programme ‘Late Night Fridays’. The evening was scheduled to take place in the beautiful gardens on the south terrace adjacent to the main house.

Unfortunately, due to the British August weather the choir had to relocate to the main library, where over a hundred people enjoyed a very varied programme from the choir.

This programme included, in the first half, such pieces as ‘Shenandoah’, ‘American Trilogy’ and the ever popular Welsh piece ‘O Gymru’. After a short interval the choir continued to entertain the enthusiastic audience with ‘Tell me It’s Not True’, ‘Angels’, ‘Hava Nagila’ and one which Mair Jones, musical director described as very pertinent to the present time. ‘World in Union’.

The audience enjoyed the evening so much that the choir were asked for an encore. The choir and the audience joined for a rousing rendition of ‘Calon Lan’.
