Porthcawl RNLI launch lifeboats to rescue kayakers

RNLI crews have rescued two kayakers who got into difficulty off Ogmore by Sea around 12:30pm today.

When the first boat arrived, crews made contact with the first kayaker who informed them that his friend had not reached shore, and that he was still in difficulty in the sea.

Due to the conditions at sea, and the amount of time the person had been in the water, further assistance was called in from other lifeboats, and a search and rescue helicopter.

Both kayakers were pulled into the lifeboat.

After being diagnosed with suffering from severe hypothermia, the helicopter winched the one kayaker from the lifeboat and took him straight to hospital.
