Record amount raised for Mayor’s charities in Porthcawl

At the presentation of cheques held at the Hi Tide, Porthcawl recently, the Mayor of Porthcawl, Coun Robert Lee was “overjoyed” to announce that his hard working committee had raised the record-breaking amount of £13,585 for his chosen charities this year.

The organising committee was led by chairman Mary Emment-Lewis, with supporting members Tracy Hill, Jill Sweet, Erica Beynon and Chris Smart.

Mr Smart acknowledged the tremendous effort that had been put in throughout the year by the Mayor, his lady Mayoress and all the organising committee members in raising this fantastic sum of money for the Mayor’s charities.

Altogether, the following 16 charities received cheques from the Mayor. The four main charities were PAWS (Porthcawl Animal Welfare Society); Porthcawl Museum; KRUF (Kidney Research Unit for Wales Foundation), and Ty Hafan.

Other charities that received cheques were the Sandville Self Help Centre at Tôn Kenfig; Girl Guides (Nottage); Trinity Care Allotments; Eisteddfod y Urdd; Ty Ellis; Newton Institute; Stroke Club; Crossroads; Sea Cadets; St John Ambulance; 1st Nottage Scout Group and PAODS (Porthcawl Amateur Operatic Society).

Guests were entertained during the evening by Col Canto, led by Erica Beynon.
