The annual Martyn Williams Walk for Velindre will be taking place on Sunday, June 19 in Porthcawl.

This will be the seventh walk that Martyn has led for the cancer centre where is a patron.

The previous routes have been a punishing climb up Pen y Fan, followed by three Lighthouse walks along the Heritage Coastline, and last year’s route through the Rhondda.

Beginning at 10am, the walk this year starts and finishes at the Hi Tide Inn Porthcawl, and the route goes through the fair and follows the coast around the front in Porthcawl, up to Locks Common and Rest Bay, onto the boardwalk and past Sker House, and onto Sker Point.

Tea and coffee will be available at the lifeguards hut, and it will be an ideal opportunity for walkers to enjoy their goodies kindly supplied by Braces Bread.

Each walker who entered by June 3 will receive an exclusive Martyn Williams Walk T-shirt and goody bag.

Martyns’ walks have raised well over £60,000 for Velindre and the three-time British Lion is looking forward to his walk.

He said: “The walks have been really well supported over the years and are a great day out – I’m particularly looking forward to this one as we did it for the first time last year and had a great turn out.

“The route hugs the coastline and there are some terrific views. Our Velindre ‘Victory over Cancer’ campaign has been really well supported and hopefully this walk will help to raise funds so that Velindre can continue to provide the best possible support to every patient, their families and carers dealing with cancer.”
