The Bar 44 Group, one of the longest standing Spanish restaurant groups in the UK, is putting on some special events to celebrate International Sherry Week (November 6–12).

Brothers Tom and Owen Morgan will host a series of events across all Bar 44 and Asador 44 locations in Cowbridge, Penarth and Cardiff.

Festivities will include special offers on flights of sherry at each restaurant, sherry cocktails created by the Bar 44 mixologists and a specially designed five-course tapas and sherry pairing menu.

Asador 44 in Cardiff will also offer a four-course set lunch or dinner with carefully chosen sherries by resident sommelier, Fergus Muirhead.

Customers have the opportunity to pick up some skills and learn the traditional art of pouring sherry from the barrel. Visitors to Bar 44 Penarth will learn how to pour with a traditional ‘venencia’ in a free masterclass session on November 12.

Bar 44’s love for sherry stems from owner Owen Morgan, who is one of the very few ‘Official Sherry Educators’ in the UK and the first in Wales.

The accolade was awarded to Owen after he passed a rigorous, three-day examination in Jerez, where he was quizzed on sherry production theory and took tricky blind tasting tests.

Owen said: “We’d love for everyone to come and join in with our International Sherry Week celebrations and take the opportunity to try something new, have fun and enjoy what we believe to be the best wine in the world for matching with food.”
