South Wales Police investigated over Porthcawl nightclub collision – WalesOnline

South Wales Police is being investigated over its involvement with a car involved in a collision outside a Porthcawl nightclub, which left 13 people needing hospital treatment.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun an investigation into police involvement in the lead-up to the collision.

Court appearance

The incident took place outside Streets nightclub on John Street at around 1am on Sunday, October 25 .

Ryan Ford, 24, from Porthcawl, has been charged with causing serious injury while driving.

He appeared in front of magistrates on October 26 and is next due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on November 9 .

The IPCC is appealing for any witnesses who were in or near John Street, The Portway or nearby roads and who saw a white, marked police transit van leading up to the collision to contact them.

‘Independent investigation’

The independent investigation follows a mandatory referral to the IPCC from South Wales Police immediately after the incident.

IPCC Commissioner for Wales, Jan Williams, said: “A police van was in the vicinity shortly prior to the collision and our independent investigation will examine what police action was taken in respect of the Audi, and whether relevant procedures were followed.”
