The 121st Amateur Championship has teed off in Royal Porthcawl and here’s all you need to know

The Amateur Championship is a golf tournament which is held annually in the UK and this year it’s just teed off at Royal Porthcawl and Pyle Kenfig golf clubs.

It is one of two leading individual tournaments for amateur golfers, along with the US Amateur, so it’s causing plenty of excitement.

So what can we expect?

When does it start?

The 121st Amateur Championship is being staged at the Royal Porthcawl and Pyle and Kenfig golf clubs from now until Saturday, June 18.

Where is it being held?

The Royal Porthcawl , with a magnificent setting with sea views from every hole, is hosting the Amateur Championship for the seventh time, as well as Pyle and Kenfig Golf Cclub.

With its lofty sand dunes hugging the coast of South Wales, Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club is situated in a wonderful stretch of golfing country.

Spectators are welcome at both Royal Porthcawl and Pyle and Kenfig and visitors can watch free of charge at both courses.

Are there any other places to play golf in the area?

There are three other golf courses in Bridgend county, making it a hugely varied golfing destination, particularly for beginners and young players.

Players can drive beside the coast at The Grove golf course or head further inland for a much more rugged round at Maesteg.

Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club

Meanwhile, Coed y Mwstwr, one of the area’s top hotels, comes complete with its own 69-par parkland course.

The Senior Open Championship, presented by Rolex, will be staged at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in 2017 following the huge success of Wales’ first Senior Major championship this summer.
