The disgusting mess left on a stunning Gower beach after fireworks night

A shocking mound of mess was left dumped on a popular Gower beach after Bonfire Night.

Empty firework packets, rockets and leaflets were left in a scorched heap on Caswell Bay, which was discovered on Wednesday morning.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said chairs from the nearby cafe had also been dragged onto the beach and were left next to the pile.

They said: “There were fireworks left there and there had been no clean up whatsoever.

“The mess was at the bottom of the steps, on the sand.

“If you walk onto the flat area by the cafe at Caswell and you’ve got a dog with you, you could throw a ball for the dog and they could walk into the fire.

“There were three chairs by the fire which had obviously been taken from the cafe.

“You could see the rocket sticks all across the beach.

“It’s irritating and it’s just the disrespect of people.”

It comes after an 11-year-old girl picked up 67 sparklers off Porthcawl Beach in just 10 minutes after the town’s fireworks display.

The firework display on Swansea beach:

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: “This sort of anti-social behaviour is unacceptable and whoever is responsible should be ashamed of themselves.

“It is astonishing that a small minority of people seem to think it is ok to spoil our beaches through this kind of littering and fly-tipping rather than disposing of their rubbish responsibly.

“We will continue to work closely alongside community groups, community councils, other organisations and police as part of a team approach to keep our beaches as clean as we can.”
