Elvis Presley lookalikes will be taking over the seaside town of Porthcawl again this September for a major celebration of The King.

The Porthcawl Elvis Festival is the largest event of its kind in the world and fans and impersonators of the late superstar travel for miles to be a part of it.

When is the Porthcawl Elvis Festival?

The 2016 event is taking place between September 23 and 25.

What are the highlights?

It’s Elvis! Well, one of hundreds of them…

Featured events are in the Grand Pavilion and The Hi Tide hosts more than 100 shows during the weekend, many with free admission.

There are fringe festivities at 20 different venues in the town.

And The Elvies, the world’s leading award show for Elvis Tribute Artists, will also be making a return.

There will also be a pop-up Elvis art gallery exhibiting works by Sara Dix and Rhiannon and Les Williams and a collection of Elvis Festival images from award-winning photographer Juliet Eden.

Anyone stepping foot into Porthcawl who wasn’t aware of the festival beforehand would be forgiven for thinking they’d arrived on a different planet with all the synchronised party groups planning their exact same outfits right down to a T
Where’s Elvis?

Porthcawl’s Grand Pavilion will be screening The Gift an acclaimed short film about Elvis followed by a QA with the producer.

This year’s headliner is American Victor Trevino who, earlier this month, came second in the Ultimate Elvis Competition held in Graceland.

How much are tickets?

Many of the events are free but some of the events, including the Porthcawl Elvis gospel show vary between £10 and £15.

When are the big events?

Heat one of the Best Festival Elvis competition is on Friday, September 23. There is also a performance by The New Kings will feature four top tribuate acts who have never appeared at the Festival before. They are Steve Halliday, Aren E and, from Spain, John Mencis.

The show is headlined by last year’s Best Festival Elvis – Michael Glaysher.
Heat two of the competition is immediately followed by the grand final on Saturday, September 24.

Fans celebrate a previous Elvis day

On the Saturday night, The Elvies – the most prestigious award show in the world – perform.

The traditional Elvis Gospel Show, presented by Dean Mack, takes place early afternoon on the Sunday followed by Elvis at The Movies, produced by Mike Nova.

On the Sunday night there are three sets performed by three separate, award winning Elvis Tribute Artists. A Sun Studio set from Victor Trevino Jr, followed by a ’68 Special from Garry J Foley. The show ends with a full Vegas set from Pete Storm.
