Porthcawl Bridge Club has recently held two special calendar events – the Club Random Teams, in which pairs are initially moved randomly to establish their team-mates.

The club also held a heat of the Welsh Bridge Union Simultaneous Pairs, sponsored by Bridge Overseas – the major UK Bridge Holiday company located locally. The proceeds from this event are donated to the Wales Air Ambulance. Pairs compete in the club, but then the results are also scored centrally along with other club’s results to give a national ranking.

The latest results from the club are: Thursday, August 29 – first – Maurice and Margaret Harris; second (equal) – Tony Haworth and David Newman; Trish Saunders and Sue Anthony. Saturday, August 31 (Random Teams) – first – Terry Dolan, Pat Haworth, Eileen Mahoney, Jeff Barnett; runners-Up – Janet Richards, Trish Saunders, Connie Dick, David Newman. Thursday, September 5 (WBU Simultaneous Pairs) – First – Gary Williams and Tony Haworth; second – Norma and David Newman. In the National Results – Gary and Tony were ranked fourth, and Norma and David fifth.

The club meets at the Awel-y-Mor centre Thursdays (6.45 pm–9.45 pm; Saturdays (3.15 pm–6.15 pm). Visitors welcome at any time. To contact the club, call 01656 785794.
