Rotary in Porthcawl would like to give a big ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in this year’s Christmas Tree Festival and for making it such a success.

The club is always grateful to the people who live in and around Porthcawl for their support in its Christmas activities and to all who came to All Saints’ Church, they were treated to a winter wonderland of trees and lights, not to mention a chance to win one of four Christmas hampers.

There were trees from all walks of Porthcawl life – schools, churches, clubs, organisations and societies – each tree was festooned with decorations that were pertinent to the groups they represented.

Mince pies and hot drinks were available all through each day of the festival and there were several evenings with entertainment – the Rotary Young Musician competition and an evening of Christmas cheer with local school choirs, musicians and the local choir, Sounds Familiar.

If you missed this year’s event, make a date for next year; it’s sure to be even better.

Thanks to all the Rotarians who helped, the choirs and children who took part, their parents and teachers, the Mayor, Cllr Lorrie Desmond-Williams for her attendance and to Canon Philip Masson and All Saints’ Church for the week-long use of the church.

Meanwhile, the Porthcawl Rotarians are still busy – the last day for the sale and posting of 25p stamps for Christmas card delivery has passed and soon the ‘Posties’ will be delivering the cards, then it’s the Carolcade for two evenings from 5pm to 8pm.

Tuesday, December 19 Bryneglwys Gardens – Limetree Way area– Linden Way.

Thursday, December 21, Suffolk Place – Fenton Place – South Road – 40 Acre.

Please note that this year the Carolcade float will not be able to reverse up cul-de-sacs, so please listen for the music if it’s around your area and bring your children to see Father and Mother Christmas if they can’t get to you!

Finally, Rotary in Porthcawl wishes everybody a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Ivor Williams
