Porthcawl Comprehensive School’s production of Oliver! closed on Saturday (January 26) and the cast are basking in high praise after the series of shows in the Grand Pavilion).

The GEM will be carrying a review of Oliver! (with pictures) very soon.

However, for a number of the young actors, it was straight back to work, as they started rehearsals for The Bridgend Youth Theatre’s next show Chorus Line (Grand Pavilion, March 1 and March 2).

Chorus Line is not often performed by schools, because so many of the cast need to be able to sing, dance and act. With over 20 performers having solo spots at one time in the show, it puts a stretch on resources, but BYT director Roger Burnell clearly thinks that he has a group capable of doing this great show justice.

Within 24 hours of the final performance of Oliver! cast members were busy learning the music and choreography for a show that celebrates all the performers who make up a musical, putting their hopes and dreams on stage, together with their personal struggles.

Seated front in the picture are two of the stars of Oliver! It’s not difficult to recognise Meg Morris, who played Nancy, but Jack Williams, alongside her, looks a little different, minus his Fagin beard!

In the back row (left to right) are: Patrick O’Neill (Mr Bumble); Olivia Baglow; Kara Morgan-Rees; Orla Danahar; Eddy Osborne (who played Bet); and Carys Morgan (Mrs Sowerberry). (NOTE: Lucia Brown, another Oliver! cast member moving on to Chorus Line, was unavailable when the photo was taken).
